R7 Solutions is pleased to announce the completion of delivery of services to Hess Corporation in support of that company's GeoInfo application. Built on top of ArcGIS Server in ASP.NET, GeoInfo allows Hess Corporation to quickly catalog, search, download and review complex geophysical data for worldwide oil and gas exploration and production operations.
We love to work with you. We know we can talk with you whenever we need and you are very flexible, so we don’t have any problems doing business with you at all… I think we have a good business relationship with you.
- Amy Lam, Manager of E&P Data Management Systems at Hess Corporation
We are excited to announce our new practice area in open source geographic information systems. You can read about these services here.
Open source GIS has been gaining steam for awhile, but only in the last few months has it hit a critical mass that demands the attention of not only researchers and students, but also the mid-range and larger enterprise user.
The FOSS GIS servers, development frameworks and client/server systems now available have become truly competitive with legacy offerings, based on features, functions, reliability and support.
The efforts of the OSGeo foundation are to be greatly credited for this change. With the consolidation of projects, establishment of industry standards, promotion of FOSS ("Free Open Source Software") geographic systems, and especially the active incubation of promising software development projects, FOSS GIS has come of age.
R7 Solutions launched a new, all-inclusive GIS hosting service this week. The details and sign-up form can be found here.
The new service provides the industry's first end-to-end managed GIS hosting solution that includes full setup of any of the included GIS platforms, loading of data layers, geocoding of non-spatial data, and ongoing support and management for a flat monthly fee.
For the small to medium-sized enterprise, this has big advantages.
1) You know you have assets... You just don't know where they are.
You have no GIS.
Do you find it easy to figure out the exact proximity of assets to each other and to critical infrastructure like pipelines, roads, waterways and transmission lines?
What about more complex questions like documenting compliance, estimating environmental impacts and modeling operating costs? What about managing right-of-way, platting and conveyancing?
Without a GIS in place, the costs can mount quickly.
You need to invest in at least a basic GIS solution, and build from there.
R7 Solutions is growing again. We are currently looking for both mid-career and early-career software developers with experience in ASP.Net / C# development.
Actually, if you're good enough, are an independent thinker and like challenges, we'll find a place for you regardless of your background.
All happy nerds welcome! And we don't own any cubicles.
It is a scary job, but somebody has to do it: We developed and host the "Blast Map" nuclear terror simulation map for Harvard University.
First launched in 2004, we have now upgraded the application in 2010 to include 3D views and urban models from Microsoft Virtual Earth.
With the upgrade, you can now nuke cities in 3D.
The publisher of World Oil, Ron Higgins, released his annual letter earlier this year and predicted significant improvement in the outlook for the industry.
Among the 2010 forecasts, Higgins expects to see US drilling activity grow by 14.9% over last year with total rig counts up 28% over 2009 and Canadian drilling to rise by 16% over 2009.
He also reports that Houston-based Groppe, Long & Littell predicts a 2010 average price of $80.50/bbl and an average price of $7.15/Mcf at Henry Hub for natural gas, although new domestic production could push that down to $6.50/Mcf.
R7 Solutions has become one of two US distributors for DBXtra, an ad hoc reporting tool for database applications that allows end-users to design and deploy reports and charts without reliance on software developers.
This tool fulfills a long-standing need for a better and much easier end-user ad hoc reporting tool.
We are excited to announce that we are in the process of moving all active clients to our new online Project Management System. If we haven't contacted you yet to provide your log-in credentials, we will soon.
We had a great time talking to GIS professionals, state legislators, public sector executives and others at Oklahoma GIS Day at the State Capitol yesterday. This is the 16th annual GIS Day and we had a prime spot in the Capitol rotunda.
Thanks to Shellie Willoughby of the Office of Geographic Information of the Oklahoma Conservation Commission for organizing the event and making it friendly and effective for educating the public about the importance and power of mapping technologies in the public sector.
The South Central Arc User Group's annual conference for ESRI ArcGIS users is coming up in Fort Worth, Texas on March 30. 2010.

We will also be announcing our new Mapping-as-a-Service offering during the conference.
We are also happy to announce that R7 Solutions will be raffling an HD digital video camera for event participants!
This is totally gratuitous - we know - but that's what makes conference fun, right? Be sure to stop by and drop off a business card for a chance to win.
