HOUSTON, TX, August 22, 2006 - The Houston City Council today unanimously approved the purchase of GeoRoom 3.2 from R7 Solutions for use in the City's Public Works and Engineering (PW&E) department. The purchase had been championed by the department in support of mission critical workflow integration projects currently underway at the City. GeoRoom will be used to integrate the department's existing GIS servers and systems, including ArcSDE and ArcIMS applications, with document management in SharePoint and a custom workflow and ticket management system that helps to manage both jobs and assets across the City. The project will be especially economical for the City because it leverages existing GIS and database licenses and infrastructure investment, builds on the PW&E's existing staff skills around these technologies, and integrates directly with existing document management systems, in situ, without creating additional system administration overhead. GeoRoom's SharePoint integration capabilities and R7 Solutions consulting services will allow documents to be geospatially indexed and searched directly from the GeoRoom interface. Unified "single sign-in" authentication across GeoRoom, SharePoint and an Oracle access control database will also be addressed. GeoRoom also provides PW&E with an easy to use user interface for attaching new documents and SharePoint list items to locations on the map, as well as specialized polygon drawing tools both for project area designation and for geospatial search constraint. Delivery of the system will occur over the next several months as systems are integrated and will be completed in cooperation with City technical staff. About R7 Solutions |
